Two Factor Authentication (2FA)

What is authentication?

Authentication is a process by which people prove they are who they claim to be. An example is an individual signing into Moxie Suite using their email and password.

What is 2FA?

Two-factor, also called 2FA, adds a second layer of security when signing in. Moxie uses SMS (text) for 2FA.

Usually, you verify your identity with a single factor, such as a password, which is something you know. Verifying your identity using a second factor, like a smartphone, which is something you have, prevents others from signing in as you, even if they know your password.

How is 2FA being used at Moxie?

At the Moxie, two-factor authentication is used to secure your Moxie Suite account with sensitive data to reduce the risk of getting compromised.

Who is eligible to use 2FA?

2FA is live, and all accounts have access to 2FA.

What happens if I do not have 2FA enabled and attempt to log into my account?

You will see a popup which will prompt you to enable 2FA for your account. After enabling you'll be able to access your account as you normally would.

Does Moxie have access to my 2FA code?

No, by its nature, 2FA sets up an additional layer of security. SMS and app codes are only set to the phone number or application you set up as part of the 2FA setup process.

Why do I need 2FA?

Passwords can often be stolen, guessed, or hacked, and you may not even realize your password has been compromised. With two-factor authentication, a compromised password won’t mean a compromised account. Anyone who may potentially guess your password would still need access to the code sent to your phone number.

Can I reduce the number of times I’m prompted for 2FA?

Currently, no; anytime you sign out of your MS account, you must enter the 2FA code sent to your cell phone to log into MS successfully.

Enabling 2FA

How long does it take to register for 2FA?

The setup is simple and should take no more than 1-2 minutes to complete. Please follow along with this help center article (with a Loom video at the bottom) to help you through the process.

How do I enable 2-factor authentication (2FA) on my account?

What forms of 2FA are supported?

We support both SMS (text) and authenticator applications.

How long does my authentication last?

Your session will remain active for 7 days after logging in or 5 days of inactivity, whichever comes first. At this point, you will be logged out and will need to log in using 2FA once more.

What do I need to use 2FA with Moxie?

To use 2FA, you will need a phone capable of receiving SMS text messages or capable of downloading an authenticator app.

Can I add multiple numbers for 2FA?

Yes, you can add additional phone numbers and specify which one should be the primary device used to receive 2FA codes.

✏️ Note - If an authenticator app is added for 2FA it will be the default option, instead of SMS texts.

Can I set up 2FA with a number outside the United States?

If you are using a phone number from another country, click on the flag icon to access the dropdown menu. Here, you can either type the country code or select the country from the list.

Troubles with 2FA

If I get a new phone, what do I do?

If you get a new phone, the process will depend on the following:

Using SMS (text):

  • If you are keeping the same phone number, then you can use the new phone to continue logging in as usual.
  • If you are not keeping your old phone number, you will need to use your old phone for authentication or reach out to us to so we may manually remove 2FA on your account. This will allow you to log in and re-enable 2FA using your new number.

Using an authenticator app

  • Unable to log into the same account and retrieve access keys,  reach out to us to so we may manually remove 2FA on your account. This will allow you to log in, open your new authenticator app account and add 2FA.

What do I do if my 2FA device is lost or stolen?

If you set up more than one 2FA device, you can use your available 2FA device to remove your lost or stolen device. Otherwise, please reach out to us so that we may remove the 2FA number from your account.
