BOI E-Filing Instructions

This guide helps you complete e-filing for your legal entity in just 10-15 minutes!

 

Important - Do NOT forget to download the transcript submission to save for future records.

 

Who needs to file this?:

1. Provider needs to file for their MSO entity (LLC...etc). 

2. Provider/MD if you have your OWN PC that Moxie does not own or manage, please fiile this for that PC as well

Background: The BSA E-Filing System supports electronic filing of Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) forms (either individually or in batches) through a FinCEN secure network. BSA E-Filing provides a faster, more convenient, more secure, and more cost-effective method for submitting BSA forms. This law went into effect January 1, 2024.  Reference the law here. 

BOI = Beneficial Ownership Information

FinCEN = Financial Crimes Enforcement Network.

According to FinCEN, this reporting requirement is intended to enhance the ability of FinCEN and other agencies to protect the U.S. financial system from illicit use, bringing the United States in line with at least 30 other countries that have implemented some form of central register of BOI. 

Steps below (total process takes about 10-15 minutes). No payment is required.

First Step = Obtain a FinCEN ID *this will be used for your BOI filing 

    1. Have your driver's license ready!
    2. Navigate to this website
    3. Create an account (login.gov button)
    4. Input your email and move forward to check your email with a link confirming it is your email address
    5. Complete online account setup
    6. Log in to website
    7. Add your legal name and address 
    8. Complete ID information with document upload 
    9. Submit application
  • Write down or save your FinCEN ID - very important!! You will use it in the next step.

Second Step - BOI E-Filing


  1. Navigate to this website
  2. Click on “BIO E-FILING” (second box)


3.    Click “Get Started” next to BOI E-Filing

4. File Online BOIR → Click “Prepare & Submit BOIR”

BEGIN THE APPLICATION

  1. Click “I agree” on the popup window
  2. Choose a - initial report
  3. Date = today’s day, nothing to change
  4. Next
  5. Scroll down to start at #5 - Reporting Company Legal Name (your legal entity name i.e. LLC name). Complete the remainder of the application 
  6. On the “company applicant page” input your FinCEN ID from the first step above 
  7. Skip beneficial owner
  8. Continue onto legal name and DOB
  9. Add passport/ID info + image
  10. Finalize signature/name on “Submit” page
  11. Download Transcript for your records **DO NOT FORGET TO DO THIS
